Comments/reviews:

Feather Boy is a book about Robert, the class victim, who is asked by a strange old lady to solve the mystery of Chance House where, legend has it, a boy once fell to his death from an upper window. The story has a brilliant and exciting plot and keeps you reading long past your bed-time.

The characters in Feather Boy are well described. I had a clear picture of Robert in my head from his fluffy blond hair right down to his scuffed sneakers. As a reader, I often felt that I was right there beside him and shared his frustration and fear as he explored the spooky and derelict Chance House. To offer relief from the mysterious and unsettling atmosphere she creates, the author provides moments of comedy such as the 'grape incident', which is both rude and hilarious and will certainly make you think twice about eating this particular fruit. Robert's friendship with Edith Sorrel, the old lady who sends him to Chance House, is very moving and the story of the firebird is used by the author to help us understand the sad events of Edith's past.

Feather Boy was incredibly easy to read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nicky Singer is a fantastic author and I would recommend her to all.
