Needle in the Groove
Jeff Noon
Noon's novella Needle in the Groove presents a futuristic, time-travelling look at an alternative history of the Manchester music scene at the end of the millennium. Seen through the eyes of the bassist Elliot Hill of new band Glam Damage we learn about a new unique liquid-based recording medium locked in a plastic sphere that allows the holder to shake the sphere and remix the music. Elliot discovers a new and interesting use for the sky-blue liquid. Using it as a drug grants a psychedelic journey of time-travel. A journey that takes Elliot to late 1977 where he bears witness to the end of the legendary Electric Circus.
