Fitzgerald's Wood is described by the author as: 'born in the space between Nigeria, Newhaven and now'. This book explores the themes of identity and family; Fitzgerald is of mixed race - Irish/African, living in Wistful, just south of London where he grows up as a happy but deep-thinking child. When his father is killed by a lorry, this starts a quest to discover his roots. Fitzgerald wants to take his father 'home' but this means first finding out exactly what that means and where it is. The story is essentially his journey and the odd assortment of characters he encounters on the way.

David Nwokedi was born in Nigeria in 1965. He came to the UK when he was only 1 and settled in Newhaven. His father is African and his mother British and he writes largely about identity and the experience of being of mixed-race.  He now lives in Brighton and is married with 2 children.
